Trial

Mimi walked down the corridor with guards flanked either side of her as they walked down the pathway of the court. The chains binding her ankles and wrists clanked painfully, the binding around her waist where the chains connected itched. Still, walking between the guards was better than being dragged. Once they reached the throne, they halted in front of the Lord Commander. Mimi tilted her head back and looked steadfastly at the highest authority on her world.

“Do you know why you’re here?”

Mimi rolled her eyes. Talk about a pointless question. She was before the court because she was a murderer. She’d killed three people. The first she tricked into killing himself with a balloon wrapped in explosives, for the second she’d used a rock to cave in his skull and the third she'd choked with an umbrella. “I really am not fond of stupidity.” She stated.

“Eager to be executed?” The Commander asked.

“Nothing I say is going to make a difference anyway.” Mimi said staring at the commander. Murder was prohibited on their planet. It didn't matter how justified her actions were, she was still going to be executed. “You’ll still order my death.”

“Murder is inexcusable and you will be executed for it, here, before the court. But do you really wish to make no final statements?” The Commander asked waving forward the executioner.

“No.” Mimi said staring at the Commander defiantly. The executioner stopped next to her and pulled out his measuring tape. He wrapped it around her neck to measure the proper length of the noose that would be used to hang her. It wasn’t necessary, she’d be suspended by an energy noose, it was an intimidation tactic. One she was determined to ignore.

“Very well.” The Commander ordered motioning for her to be taken away.

The guards grabbed Mimi’s arms, dragging her back down the pathway and out the doors. Mimi waited until they were far enough away from the court and pulled out the small laser knife she’d hidden under the fake skin on her wrist. In a second she had the chains around her wrists released, the guards didn’t even notice. The biggest challenge was going to be getting away from the guards long enough to get her ankles free. But before she could do anything, the guards dropped to the ground. Knives sticking out from their necks.

Mimi whirled around only to come face to face with the Commander’s right hand man, also known as the best assassin in the galaxy, Valak. The only person permitted to kill without consequence. “I thought I was supposed to hang?”

“You are, that’s why we’re leaving.” Valak said walking past her. “Unless you’d rather stay.”

Mimi released her ankles with the laser knife, before cutting through the iron around her waist. “So is this a rebellion?”

“Yes.”

Mimi grinned delighted. Well, it seemed she’d get to finish her work after all.

I REALLY LOVED THIS POST AND OBVIOUSLY IT’S A STORY THAT’S JUST STARTING. MY INTENTION IS TO TURN THIS POST INTO AN EPIC SCI FI ADVENTURE. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES.
