PROMPTS FOR DECEMBER FURIOUS FICTION

  • Your story must include a tree.

  • Your story must include something being taped.

  • Your story must include the words DANCE, SEARCH and CHANGE.

So obviously I saw these prompts and immediately thought Christmas, and I’m guessing that I wasn’t the only one.

*****

Saint Nick

Alyssa looked up at the tree, she had to admit it was the most magnificent Christmas tree that she’d ever seen, though to be fair it was also the only floating tree she'd ever seen and as for the Christmas lights, Alyssa could almost swear that if she looked hard enough, they actually moved.

“Say hi.”

Alyssa looked over her shoulder at the voice and she laughed when he saw the camera taped Diego's Christmas hat. She waved and made sure to smile for the camera while she gave a quick twirl of her dress. She'd spent so long searching for it, she figured she might as well show it off.

“You seem to be enjoying yourself.”

Alyssa looked over her shoulder at the deep rumble of Nick's voice. You'd think for a guy as big as him, he'd make more noise. “Santa.” She greeted him with a nod as she tried to keep the smile off her face. She knew that he hated being called Santa, which was why she called him that at every opportunity she got. “Decent party. A little stuffy, but decent.”

Nick growled under his breath. He was insulted, on multiple levels. “First unless I'm in the suit and we're in front of children, l'd rather you didn't call me Santa. Secondly,” Nick stepped forward until he was right in front of her. “My parties are never boring.” And he took it as a personal insult that she’d say they were.

“Yeah, yeah, sure. If there’s one thing you’ve learned in thousands of years worth of life it’s how to rage at a party.” Alyssa waved off Nick’s irritation she had some other things she wanted to ask about. “I think there’s something wrong with my eyes, I swear the lights are moving.”

Nick let out deep belly laugh. “They're pixies and fairies, I should hope they move. They like to dance around the tree every year. I had to stop hanging the lights because the young ones kept getting tangled.”

“Magic is awesome.” Alyssa grinned. Sure getting murdered had sucked, but being dead was awesome. And although she hadn't been fond of Santa at the beginning when she'd been forced to work with him, mostly because he's a perverted pain in the ass boss she was actually starting to enjoy her time at the North Pole.

“Now that that's settled. Off we go.” Nick grabbed Alyssa's hand and dragged her towards the dance floor.

“Oh no, I don't dance.” Alyssa insisted vehemently shaking her head and trying to tug her hand away from him. “Especially not in these shoes. I have to change first.”

“I thought all humans danced.” Santa chuckled under his breath as he pulled Alyssa on to the dance floor. Now he had to see her dance.

“Oh my god. Santa's racist.” Alyssa chuckled amused. They stopped on the dance floor and Nick slipped his hands over her hips. “Are we supposed to dance to this old timey music.”

Nick grinned. Now this was the part that he’d been waiting for. He looked towards the music corner and gave a nod to the DJ. Within a moment the lights dimmed, shimmering balls of light flared to life in the ceiling and the music changed to pounding club music. “I told you, my parties are never boring.”

Have a Merry Christmas Everyone, Love Jasmin
